As we reflected on a number of topics that people in our parish were interested in, we realised that many of them were themes in the book of Proverbs. Proverbs is a different kind of book to say Colossians. You don’t read it or apply it in the same way. The book of Proverbs is a collection of wise sayings, many by Solomon, and have been collated into the book we now have. Proverbs is categorized as Wisdom Literature. That means we read some of the proverbs and then we mull over them, think on them, reflect on them, and use our intellect to apply them and act on them. Because we are made in the image of God, God has given us a mind and an intellect in order to reflect on him and on how we should live before him. So, we will use Proverbs as our basis to address the topics you see below (with a couple of breaks for ‘special Sundays’.)
