Playtime

Playtime dates are at the bottom of the page.

Do you feel too busy to play with your child? Are you looking for a community of friends in the same life stage? Do you need to get out of the house to an environment your child will enjoy and not worry that they will escape/ break something/ terrorise unsympathetic adults?!

Playtime is a playgroup for children aged 0-5 and their parents. We are mostly local families living in Ormond, Bentleigh, McKinnon, Carnegie, Brighton East, and Caulfield South. We aim to provide a safe, fun, caring, interesting, inclusive & English-speaking play experience for local children and their parents, regardless of their faith or cultural background. We aim to provide an opportunity for parents to find joy in their role as parents as they play and bond with their children; and opportunity for parents to share the parenting journey and build meaningful relationships.

Playtime runs most weeks of the school term on Wednesday mornings from 9.15am. We are blessed to have wonderful facilities at Ormond Anglican Church, including a big hall for burning energy (even if it’s wet), a separate room for quieter play, highchairs and a change table, and of course tea & coffee for the parents!

A small team of volunteers (mostly current parents themselves) co-ordinate the running of Playtime, providing the set up and program. All parents are asked to join the roster for helping in the kitchen, serving approximately once each month.

What does a typical week at Playtime look like?

9.15am Free Play: A variety of activities are out for your child to play with. We have the option to sit on the floor reading books to our own children, and may have one story read out to a group.
10.30am Morning Tea: After together packing away the activities, we encourage the children to sit down at morning tea time and enjoy this social activity together. Please bring along a piece of fruit each week to be shared at morning tea, and your child’s own water bottle. Each child gets a plate of sliced fruit and crackers.
10.45am Songs: We spend 15 minutes singing songs and rhymes, and having a big cuddle with our own kids!
11.00am Farewell: The main part of Playtime comes to an end.

Extra friendship time from 11am:

On the first and last Playtimes of each term, all families are invited to stay for lunch together. Bring something to share with everyone. We will usually stay at the church and enjoy the courtyard and hall, but occasionally we will go to a local park. See below for dates.

Through the rest of the term, parents are invited to a child-free time devoted to us as parents from 11am – 12 noon. A team of volunteers care for our children while we parents get together to encounter Jesus in the Bible, learn to love him more, and support one another in our faith. No matter what your background or beliefs, you are welcome to join us if you’d like to explore the person of Jesus.
